I think everybody know about variety shows called “(country name) Idol”. The program is created by Simon Fuller it originated from the British Pop Idol. It’s about a journey of being famous by singing contest. Several posts in my blog are about that show and so far I write about American Idol 7 which the winner is David Cook and the runner up is the cute David Archuleta. I love that program (American Idol) because it produced a world quality singers such as : Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Elliot Yamin, and also an Academy Award winner for best suporting actress : Jennifer Hudson (2007). An Idol is not only from America, but is also held in other countries, such as Australian Idol, which introduced Guy Sebastian, Natalie Gauci and Matt Corby. American Idol alumni also proven that they are not Instantly celebrities, but it’s proven that they are really really high quality. Carrie Underwood, the session 4th winner is winning 20 award, 4 for American Music Award, 13 from Billboard music Award and 3 grammy award for 2008 Best Female Country Vocal, 2007 Best New Artist and 2007 Best Female Country Vocal, and is the only Idol to sweep up honors at all these awards ceremonies in the same season (2006-2007) (2007-2008), and the only Idol to win Best New Artist at the Grammys. Kelly Clarkson (which is my favorite American Idol Winner) is the only idol who has received Grammy Award for an album. Jennifer Hudson is the only idol who received Academy Award for her performance on Dreamgirls with Beyonce Knowles. Well, my country, Indonesia is also held this reality-competition show, held on 2004 for the first time which the winner is Joy Tobing but she’s out from “the Idols” because of conflicting with IP Management, the runner-up Indonesian Idol : Delon replaced her place to be the first Indonesian Idol. The second session winner Mike Mohede, which famous as a Big Mike who has a romantic voice wins the vote of becoming Indonesia’s representative on Asian Idol, and Asian Idol title goes to Singapore Idol, Hadi Mirza. This is unpredicted winning, because Hadi Mirza doesn’t have strong or high voice like Mau Marcello (Philippine Idol) or Jacquline Victor (Malaysian Idol) or romantic voice like Mike Mohede (Indonesian Idol). The three Idols (Mau, Jaq and Mike) are predicted to crown as Asian Idol, but the prediction is wrong, Asian Idol goes to cute Hadi Mirza. Is there a game played behind? I don’t know.
Well, Indonesian Idol Show ever be my favorite TV show, I love session 1 and 2, they really show vocals quality from many genre (except dangdut). But, the session following aren’t good as the former. It becomes worse and worse, maybe since Meutia Kasim (one of the judges) isn’t available for judging because of health problem. And what make me sick of that show is the TV presenter (maybe ordered by the TV station) are over dramatically when announced who will be eliminated, compared to Ryan Seacrest, presenter of American Idol who doesn’t need to be dramatic of announced who will be eliminated. I also don’t want to be rude, about my own country, Indonesian Idol lost their values to educate people, that shows by how’s the presenters proposed audience to vote by SMS or premium Call. I think people needs to be educated about how to vote the best one, not the cute one (as long as the cute and the best is on one package). If I’m not wrong, American Idol also provide toll-free call for vote their Idol, and who’s eliminated could be predict by their performance (at least the bottom three). And less of The Alumni of Indonesian Idol could make a Hits or even history.
Well, this is only opinion, I know some people would disagree with me. It’s okay, everybody has their minds.
